late 14c., "tread or step lightly and nimbly, skip, dance, caper," from Old French triper "jump around, dance around, strike with the feet" (12c.), from a Germanic source (compare Middle Dutch trippen "to skip, trip, hop; to stamp, trample," Low German trippeln, Frisian tripje, Dutch trappen, Old English treppan "to tread, trample") related to trap (n.).
The senses of "to stumble" (intransitive), "strike with the foot and cause to stumble" (transitive) are from mid-15c. in English. The meaning "to release" (a catch, lever, etc.) is recorded from 1897; trip-wire is attested from 1868. The old sense of "dance, caper, move nimbly" was common in the Elizabethan dramatists ("Trip it, gipsies, trip it fine") and is preserved in the archaism trip the light fantastic (toe) for "to dance," based on a couplet from Milton:
"act or action of tripping" (transitive), early 14c., from trip (v.); sense of "a short journey or voyage" is from mid-15c.; the exact connection to the earlier sense is uncertain. The meaning "psychedelic drug experience" is first recorded 1959 as a noun; the verb in this sense is from 1966, from the noun.
This is probably literally "that on or into which one steps," from PIE *dreb-, an extended form of a root *der- (1), base of words meaning "to run, walk, step." The English word is probably akin to Old French trape, Spanish trampa "trap, pit, snare," but the exact relationship is uncertain.

Word Trip instantly reminded me of Word Cookies, which I played almost 3 years ago and absolutely loved. The difference is that Word Cookies had a theme, however, this game makes you find words based on geographical settings.
A Classic word streak game, WordTrip is a first of its kind free word streak puzzle game where you travel through countries as you clear the puzzles. Swipe letters on the word compass to find different words. Solve the puzzles by finding all words to make your way through each country. As you fastlane your game, puzzles get trickier.
Upon completion of the puzzle, the player earns Wisdom points which helps them level up and move to another geographic area on the map. The player can also earn coins by moving up through the levels; these coins can be used to purchase hints for when the player is stuck on a particular word.
Each puzzle in Word Trip features a wheel with different letters. And each puzzle has different words that need to be located by combining letters on the wheel. The player needs to be flexible to be able to see the different combinations they need to create to finish the puzzle. If they want to earn additional points, they also need to be able to create words that are not part of the list required to finish the puzzle. For players who struggle with flexibility, they may find it difficult to find all of the words they need to complete the puzzle, causing them to rely on hints or other special bonus moves provided in the game. To practice flexibility, players should take their time with each puzzle and try starting with one letter at a time, determining what combinations they can make that start with that particular letter. Then when they are comfortable with their strategy, they can move on to harder puzzles.
Sometimes, a confusing batch of letters can leave you unclear as to what anagrams you're supposed to create from them. Remedy this by shuffling the letters repeatedly. You never know when a rotation will trigger your memory and reveal a new word.
Each puzzle is displayed as word lists. And, each list is split into two columns. The entire list starts with the smallest words and ends with the longest words. More importantly, they are sorted alphabetically.
Bonus Words are real words that are not part of the puzzle. Find enough of these words and you can earn free coins. Revealing the Bonus Words also helps you safely eliminate incorrect words without ruining your streak.
Word Trip is a fun take on the formula made popular by Wordscapes. Its gameplay may not deviate much from its inspiration, but its extra features and different words make the game worthwhile for fans of word-based puzzlers. The same thing can be said of many other fun games, actually. Take a look at this list of circle word games to add to your collection of favorite apps.
